SetterMirror AI (“SetterMirror”, “we”) is a tool that businesses connect to their own Instagram professional account so that enquiries arriving by direct message can be answered, qualified and followed up. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to have it removed.
There are two groups of people described here: the business that signs up and connects an account, and the people who message that business. We process the second group’s data on the business’s behalf.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, email address and a hashed password | To create and secure the account |
| Session records, including IP address and browser user agent | To keep you signed in and let you revoke sessions |
| Business details you enter: what you sell, pricing, service areas, qualifying questions, FAQs and objection answers | So replies are accurate to your business |
| Examples of your own messages, and edits you make to drafts, where you choose to save them | To match your writing style |
| An access token for the Instagram account you connect, stored encrypted | To receive and send messages on your behalf |
| Direct message content, and the sender’s Instagram ID, username, display name and profile picture URL | To reply in context and show you the conversation |
| Information derived from those messages: an estimate of writing style, intent and qualification answers | To adapt replies and score leads |
| Audit records of actions taken in the account | Security, and so you can see what happened |
We do not collect payment card details directly. We do not buy data about you, and we do not use your conversations or your customers’ messages to train our own general-purpose models.
Instagram and Meta data
When you connect an account, we request only the permissions needed to read and reply to messages for that account and to identify the Instagram professional account linked to your Facebook Page. We access messages sent to your business, not your personal Instagram activity, and not conversations that took place before you connected.
You can disconnect at any time from Settings → Channels, or by removing the app from your Facebook settings. Disconnecting stops all further access immediately.
How replies are generated
Message content and your business information are sent to Anthropic to generate a suggested reply. Anthropic processes this on our behalf and does not use it to train their models. Where no AI provider is configured, replies are produced from templates instead.
Replies are labelled in the product as coming from an AI setter, and the system is instructed to answer honestly if a person asks whether they are speaking to a human.
Who else processes data
- Anthropic — generating replies and analysing messages
- Neon — database hosting (London region)
- Vercel — application hosting
- Meta Platforms — the Instagram messaging API itself
How long we keep it
Conversation data is kept for the retention period set on the account, which defaults to 365 days and can be changed under Settings → Data. Account and business information is kept while the account is open.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, or complain to a supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
You can delete all stored conversations and prospect records yourself at any time under Settings → Data. To delete an entire account, or if you are someone who messaged a business using SetterMirror, see deleting your data.
